AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery in AWS European Sovereign Cloud

This topic describes how AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS) differs in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud Region.

With AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery, you can minimize downtime and data loss with fast, reliable recovery of on-premises and cloud-based applications. AWS DRS uses affordable storage, minimal compute, and point-in-time recovery.

How AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery differs

The following differences apply to AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery:

  • You must launch all Amazon EC2 instances for recovery, drill, failback, and AWS DRS service resources in an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC). If your account does not have a default Amazon VPC, you must create one before you launch instances or set up the staging area.

  • Cross-partition replication and failback between AWS European Sovereign Cloud and any other partition are not available. Within the AWS European Sovereign Cloud partition, only cross-Availability Zone replication and failback are supported.

  • AWS DRS source servers can only be extended to other AWS accounts within the AWS European Sovereign Cloud partition when using multiple staging accounts.

  • AWS DRS trusted account features are supported only between AWS accounts within the AWS European Sovereign Cloud partition.

  • Legacy operating systems that require Xen-based instances are not available.

  • The Post Launch Actions feature is not available.

  • The following Windows boot mode and licensing configurations are not available. BIOS boot mode without BYOL is supported.

    • UEFI boot mode

    • BIOS boot mode with Bring Your Own License (BYOL)

    • UEFI boot mode with Bring Your Own License (BYOL)

  • The AWS Replication Agent installer must be downloaded from a different S3 bucket URL than what is documented in the standard AWS DRS installation instructions. Use the following URLs instead:

    • Windows: https://aws-elastic-disaster-recovery-eusc-de-east-1-d6bb2f9e.s3.eusc-de-east-1.amazonaws.eu/latest/windows/AwsReplicationWindowsInstaller.exe
